WNBA power classification: fever and mystics up, lynx always n ° 1

The Lynx of Minnesota has kept the n ° 1 in the Power WNBA of ESPN ranking since the weekend of opening of the matches in May. This week is the closest that the lynx has come to lose its place.

Minnesota, of course, is always comfortably at the top of the WNBA ranking. But as our rankings take more weekly temperature of the WNBA teams, the Lynx needs the victory of 91-78 on Monday on the sky of Chicago to stay in place.

It ended his week at 2-2, just holding the rise of Phoenix Mercury, who gave the lynx one of their losses. The Mercury beat Lynx 79-71 last Wednesday, then rushed to a 78-77 victory on Monday in Golden State.

For the moment, Minnesota remains at the top. This could change next week according to Wednesday’s confrontation in Minneapolis while the Mercury visits the lynx. It will be the last match for both teams before the stars break.

Phoenix will try to give Minnesota his first loss at home in 2025, not counting the defeat of the Lynx Cup, against Indiana fever on July 1. This does not count in the ranking, where Minnesota has a 11-0 file at home and has a three-game advance on Phoenix until the matches on Monday. However, the Lynx Know Indiana showed that they had a certain vulnerability at the Target Center and hope to prevent this from happening again. And keep the mercury firmly in second place.

It is difficult to nail a similar thread between the losses of Minnesota last week in Phoenix and Chicago. The lynx was not as good as they were to be offensively against mercury, and their defense was not as sharp against the sky during an 87-81 defeat on Saturday. But in both cases, they rebounded with victories. They beat Los Angeles 91-82 the next day after losing against Phoenix, and in the revenge match in Chicago on Monday did a much better work to control the game. The Naphees Collier’s free throw shootout, MVP favorite, continued on Monday: she was 11 out of 11 on the line and was 95.4% (104 out of 109) for the season. She also made a career summit of four 3 points in the match on Monday.

He is already bearing fruit for Phoenix: Bonner raised 7 points and 6 rebounds in the victory against the lynx, then led Mercury with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Monday’s victory against Golden State. Now imagine Phoenix each time Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper are entirely healthy.

The Valkyries were not far from a week of 3-0, which would have moved them in the top 4 of the energy classification. But after an 80-61 victory at Indiana on Wednesday – their second victory this season against fever – they lost two games on possession. They fell 104-102 in Las Vegas on Saturday, then 78-77 at home in Phoenix on Monday. Natalie Nakase could be in her first season as a WNBA head coach, but she looked like a veteran by being irritated by the officer who sent the Alyssa Thomas du Mercury to the line with 1 second on the left for what turned into a winning franc lance. However, Golden State has proven that he can compete with anyone in the league.

Chicago went 2-2 during a busy week, with victories on Dallas and Minnesota, and defeats against Washington and Minnesota. Ariel Atkins underwent a leg injury in the first half of Monday’s defeat against the lynx and did not return. The sky cannot afford to lose more experience in guard, so it would be expensive if it lacks a lot of time.

Los Angeles has not yet won two games in a row, losing against Minnesota 91-82, then beating the Connecticut 92-88 last week. But three sparks play well – All -Star Kelsey Plum, Dearica Hamby and Azura Stevens – and their attack was decent (82.5 ppg.) Now, the question is whether they can climb the classification by improving their defense after granting 87.2 ppg throughout the first half of the season, the second time of the League.

Dallas fell 87-76 in Chicago then 102-83 at Indiana in two discouraging games last week. Arike Ogunbowale returned from an inch injury against fever but went 0 out of 10 on the ground. And it is obvious that the center of Teira McCowan does not enter the system of first year coach Chris Koclanes: after having an average of a double -digit score in each of its first six seasons of the WNBA, it is now on average 5.6 points and playing only 14.1 minutes per match, the two lower careers.
