Virginie-Western Mountaineers: commitment 101: Charlie Hanafin
The Virginie-Western Mountaineers football program has won a commitment from one of the stands on the summer camp circuit in Burlington (Ma.) Dexter Southfield 2026 Large receiver Charlie Hanafin.
Hanafin, 6 feet 2 inches, 184 pounds, chose Mountaineers for Boston College, Massachusetts, Brown, Yale, New Hampshire, Richmond, Georgetown and a number of others.
Hanafin moved to the Mountaineers radar after an impressive camp stop in Morgantown where he obtained a scholarship offer from the program after the event. Large receiver coach Ryan Garrett was Hanafin’s principal recruiter after working with him throughout the camp.
Hanafin returned to Morgantown for an official visit to Virginia-Western from June 18 to 20 and this trip turned out to be enough for him to put his recruitment with a commitment.
Hanafin becomes the second commitment for Virginia-Western as a broad receiver in the 2026 class joining the Niceville broader (Florida) 2026 Robert Stith.
WVSPORTS.COM decomposes HANAFIN’s commitment and what it means for the Mountaineers football program in Virginie-Westering at the same time and in the future.
Set of skills:
Hanafin is a wide qualified receiver that manages good routes and demonstrates the possibility of opening up regularly. Has a good setting to work and displays the possibility of winning in jumping ball situations. Hanafin plays the game in a refined way and was one of the most impressive perspectives on the summer camp circuit for Virginia-Western in June.
Hanafin shone head-to-head and competition exercises and thus blinned athletics as well as the ability to go down regularly with football. Virginia-Western was to add wide receptors to class and Hanafin is a prospect that has proven its competitiveness in front of coaches with a very impressive camp performance. He is the one that has a lot in advance in the future.
Adjust the program:
Hanafin obtained his offer from Virginia-Western after presenting what he could do in a camp and took advantage of his opportunities to compete. His skills set could allow him to place in many large receiver roles for Virginia-Western presenting the ability to win with his walking route as well as his athletics. The large receiver room will experience a turnover at the end of the 2025 season with several bicycle prospects through their eligibility as well as several juniors to disappear the next day.
This means that the identification and landing of certain talented options in this position were a necessity in this class and Hanafin won this opportunity by proving what it can do.
Massachusetts has not necessarily been a large recruitment area for Virginia-Western in recent years, but these coaches have proven that they will go anywhere in this new era to disembark talents. Combine the fact that Hanafin comes from a family with other athletes in division 1 and it is a strong addition all around.
Post recruitment:
Virginia-Western now has two real wide receivers in class 2026, but Mountaineers still actively target a number of others in order to complete the position in this cycle. Expect that the program targets versatile athletes who can fill both external and inside roles
